In December 2024, Rhode Island launched the Common Indicators Pilot Project to strengthen the role of community health workers (CHWs) in advancing health equity. Six community-based organizations and Health Equity Zones (HEZs) participated, testing national indicators and sharing strategies in sessions led by Mitchelle Abuna of the Rhode Island Department of Health, with support from Dr. Noelle Wiggins and CHW Pennie Jewell of the CHW Center for Research and Evaluation.
